I met Simone and Kiley last September in San Diego for a whimsical beach engagement session at Windansea. These two liked my unconventional shooting style (and getting drenched by ocean waves) so much they decided to send me to Arizona for their wedding weekend in April too!
I flew into Phoenix the day before to take some pre-wedding portraits of Simone and Kiley before their big day. Unfortunately, their wedding attire was still out for pressing, but that didn’t stop us from having an adventure packed day in the desert together.
We decided to check out the Salt River area near Mesa right around golden hour. Despite the unexpected wind tearing at our hair and clothes, the scenery was so tranquil. The green near the river added stark, luminescent contrast to the dusty hues of the desert. It’s easy to see why this place was crawling with photographers.
We hopped back in the car to chase the light around the mountain, landing in a glittering field full of tall cacti and brush, where we watched the hazy sun set over the horizon. The perfect end to the day and beginning of the trip.
